"I told you, you should have changed the world when you were young."
SYNOPSIS:
Inspired by the life and music of punk icon Poly Styrene, this new play is set in two equally explosive eras - 1977 and post-Brexit Britain. Writer Cheryl White uses Poly’s prophetic lyrics and ideas to tell the story of a teenage friendship ruined by intolerance, racism and idealism – all set to the music of this punk legend.
It’s about leaving behind your best friend. Choosing politics over love. And regretting choices made 40 years ago. Crackling with music, energy and plenty of punk outrage at the state of our nation, Highly Inflammable asks what we could have done then to make the world different now.
Performed in 2017 at St Mary-in-the-Castle, Hastings.
